(b). That the Sergeants honestly thought they might themselves

occupy the shed: a belief confirmed by their doing so for years without prohibition.

(c). That the result of this further enquiry does not

materially affect the position of the Captain Superintendent inasmuch as the abandonment of the station by the European Officer was clearly not indicat- -ed to Government so far as your Committee can ascertain. (d). That with regard to Sir F. Lugard's visit the possibility that he was shown the arrangements and made no deprecato- -ry comment does not really relieve the load of the Department from the responsibility for such arrangements: arrangements as to the faulty character of which your Comittee has already expressed its views.
